About Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) works. Doctors prescribe it and physical therapists administer it every day. It helps people who cannot move due to paralysis, injury or disease to build enough muscle to start exercising. It can complement an exercise program, but it is not a substitute for exercise. There are rumors that the original machines were used in the old Soviet Union to maximize the performance of elite athletes, but EMS machines are not approved in the US for such use.

Our muscles work by electricity as surely as our electronic toys. Electrical impulses from the brain travel through the nerves to the muscles and cause them to contract. EMS units mimic this. A processing unit generates pulses that travel through wires to electrodes in pads that attach to the skin. The electrodes are positioned on each side of the muscle that needs help and a current passes from one to the other, through the muscle. This electrical stimulation causes the muscle to contract.

The electrical signals generated by the device are programmable. Specific signals affect different types of muscle fibers in particular ways. This makes it possible to program a treatment for a specific effect, such as strengthening the muscle, improving its response time or making it stronger.

A consumer considering the purchase of an electric muscle stimulator should discuss his intention with a physician familiar with its case. The doctor can make sure no contraindications exist. He may have suggestions about the brands and models of machine that the patient should consider. He will also have valuable advice about the program to be undertaken, and can arrange for the patient to be trained in the machine’s use.

The purchaser should also make certain that the machine selected for purchase is safe. Running an electric current of any size through a human body is an inherently risky proposition. The unit should be UL listed and approved by the FDA. It should be examined before each use and if any damage occurs the unit should be repaired or replaced.

Electrical muscle stimulation can be very useful to someone who is movement impaired. It can shorten recovery times by keeping immobilized muscles from atrophying and helping them to stay toned. It can be used to enhance athletic performance by those already functioning at a high level and with the Flex Belt it can tone abs. Use the machine as it is intended and it will make a positive impact on general health.

I was very skeptical when I first heard about The Flex Belt. I knew I could always return it if it didn’t work so I decided to give it a try. I’ve been using it for over a month now and really do feel a major difference in my abs. It’s so easy and I feel like I’m doing crunches when I’m just sitting still!

This thing really works! My abs got noticeably tighter after only a few days. And now I actually feel comfortable taking my shirt of in public after a couple of months of use.

The Flex Belt is one of the best fitness products I’ve ever used. It saves a lot of time and is easy to fit into my daily routine and shows results very quickly. Been using it for about a month and the mild sensations I felt initally is hardly noticable now. I get even better results now because I can increase the intensity setting.

After a little more than a month of use my stomach is much tighter than before. My stomach doesn’t stick out any more when I wear blouses. I never enjoyed doing sit ups or crunches and this is much better because I can do housework etc. when wearing the Flex Belt.
