Many women get vaginal infections at some point in their lives. For some, this will be a one time occurrence. For others, this will continue to happen periodically throughout their lives. Many women are embarrassed by these conditions, and while this is understandable, the larger issue should be seeking treatment.

Vaginitis is one of the most common vaginal infections. This is an inflammation of the external parts of the vagina. Vaginitis can be caused by several different things, including infection, allergic reactions to foods or cleansing products, and improperly balanced hormones. This condition can be quite painful, and medication will be required in order to make it go away.

Yeast infections, or Candida, are quite common forms of vaginal infections. The symptoms of a yeast infection include itching in the pelvic area, and discharge. It is quite possible to have a yeast infection and not be aware of it. This is because at least some level of discharge is considered to be normal, and the discharge associated with a yeast infection can be odorless. This infection can be treated with prescription medication or over the counter medication. Yeast Infection No More is a guide for natural remedies.

Trichomonas Vaginitis is often caused by a parasite that is transmitted through sexual activity. Symptoms of this condition include discharge that is foul smelling, and is a green-yellow color. Burning during urination and pain are additional symptoms. Prescription medication is required in order to cure this condition.

Bacterial Vaginosis symptoms include a combination of vaginal discharge that has a strong odor, and inflammation of the vaginal area. This condition is most commonly caused by exterior factors that cause the body to become out of balance internally. Common causes include not getting enough sleep, lots of stress, and improper diet. Antibiotics or Femanol are most commonly prescribed for this condition.

There are some steps that can be taken in order to prevent vaginal infections from occurring. These include:

  • Avoiding scented tampons and deodorant feminine sprays is a good idea, as the chemicals that these product contain can cause an imbalance.
  • Avoid using douches, as these only push bacteria further up into the vaginal cavity. The vagina was designed to be a self-cleaning area of the body, and will naturally expel bacteria on it’s own.
  • Always use condoms during sex. Even in monogamous relationships, there is always the risk of bacteria being transmitted from one partner to the other. Be certain that any other forms of birth control, such as cervical caps, are well cleaned.

Chronic vaginal infections can be a sign of more serious health problems. It is important to visit a doctor regularly, and to not ignore infections. Speak to you doctor about any discharge or pain you may be experiencing. Even if you find this embarrassing, it is quite necessary in order to protect your health.

Vaginal infections can occur in women of all ages. Prevention is key, but some women simply seem to be more prone to these conditions than others. Seeking proper treatment, and then following through with that treatment is the best course of action.
