Optavia Review – Will This Help You Lose Weight?Optavia

4.18/5 (39 votes)

The vast majority of people want to lose a little bit of weight, or even a lot. However, it seems impossible for most of us to actually do it. We live busy lifestyles and don’t have time to home cook our food, choosing processed ready meals instead, which do nothing good for our health. Most of us feel like we are fighting a losing battle. That said, there are thousands of products out there that claim to help us lose weight in an easy and sustainable manner. So many, in fact, that it can seem overwhelming to choose among them. One of the methods you may have come across is Optavia. Let’s take a look at what this is, what it offers, and whether or not it works.

What Is Optavia?

Optavia was founded on July 25, 2016. The company had been developing products for many years, wanting to create a way for people to live healthy lifestyles and achieve sustainable weight loss. They originally released 13 different “Fuelings”, none of which contain GMOs or artificial ingredients. Instead, they use natural ingredients found in various locations around the world. Their 13 Fuelings were:

  1. The chia bliss smoothie
  2. The buttermilk cheddar herb biscuit
  3. The chocolate cherry ganache bar
  4. The chipotle mac & cheese
  5. The dark chocolate coconut curry bar
  6. The cinnamon cream cheese swirl cake
  7. The dark chocolate covered cherry shake
  8. The honey chili cranberry nut bar
  9. The green renewal shake
  10. The spinach pesto mac & cheese
  11. The Indonesian cinnamon and honey hot cereal
  12. The wild blueberry almond hot cereal.

Since then, however, they have developed many more Fuelings, so that there is a greater variety of food to choose from.

The Fuelings and plans have been developed scientifically. The company has created a Scientific Advisory Boards to ensure they are fit for purpose. Optavia is the latest in a line of products developed by the company itself, which has operated since 1980. Globally, some 20,000 physicians have recommended their products and some 1,000,000 people have used them. The Fuelings are effective, delicious, and nutritious, having been created to make sure people have all the right nutrients at the right time.

Optavia has created two lines of Fuelings, being the Essential and the Select line. Both always contain complete, high quality protein, 24 vitamins and minerals, and patented probiotic (GanedenBC30). Furthermore, they are free from artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colorings.

How Does It Work?

To make Optavia work for you, you first have to choose a plan. This can be achieved through the company’s website, where you will be asked for your gender, your age, and whether you want to lose weight or maintain your weight loss. If you choose the latter, it will ask you how much you want to lose, what your activity level is, and whether you have diabetes. If you choose weight loss maintenance, it automatically recommends the Optimal Health 3&3 Plan.

Optimal Weight 5&1 Plan

The first plan focuses on “Healthy Habits”, which means you will eat six meals per day. This ensures that your body starts to burn fat without losing your muscle mass. Optavia offers 60 nutritionally interchangeable, highly convenient Fuelings, all of which have been scientifically designed. You will consume five daily Fuelings and one meal that you cook yourself, but that is lean and green. The emphasis of this program is on developing healthy habits that you can incorporate in your life even if you no longer follow the Optavia plan. The kits that are available, which are all 30 day supplies, are:

  • Select Optimal Kit with the Habits of Health System (5&1 Plan) $426.15
  • Essential On-The-Go Kit (5&1 Plan) $356.15
  • Essential Optimal Kit (5&1 Plan) $356.15
  • Select Favorites Kit (5&1 Plan) $390.15
  • Essential Optimal Kit with the Habits of Health System (5&1 Plan) $392.15
  • Essential On-The-Go Kit with the Habits of Health System (5&1 Plan) $392.15

Each kit contains 119 servings.

Optimal Weight 4&2&1 Plan

The second option is for those who want to be more flexible and who want to still eat all of the different food groups, while at the same time dropping down to a healthy weight. This means that four meals each day are made up of Fuelings. There is a choice of 60 different Fuelings, each of which has been scientifically designed and is full of nutrients. Additionally, you will create two healthy lean green meals per day, and you get to enjoy a snack as well, albeit a healthy one. At present, the Optimal Weight 4&2&1 guide costs $2.50. The kits, meanwhile, are the same as with the Optimal Weight 5&1 plan, but it will last slightly longer because you only consumer five Fuelings per day.

Optimal Health 3&3 Plan

The Optimal Health 3&3 plan is designed for those who wish to sustain their weight. The plan focuses on balanced nutrition, in which you can consume three Fuelings per day, as well as three balanced meals. The Healthy Habits that should be second nature to you by now mean that you will continue to eat every two to three hours, choosing small bites instead of large meals. The kits are exactly the same as those included with the Optimal Health 5&1 plan, but you will find that they last longer because you don’t use as many.

Optavia has also developed a range of other products that you can add to your plans. For instance, they have Infusers, which come in a range of different flavors and some of which have added benefits such as helping to burn calories. They also offer supplements and a wealth of other tools and accessories that you can use to make the transition into your new, healthier lifestyle easier to manage.

What I Liked about Optavia

  • It is incredibly easy to follow this plan, because the meal replacements are just ready to go. Because it is so simple, it is also much easier to stick to the plan.
  • Results are quick. In fact, most people report seeing a difference within as little as a week. While that may be water weight, they are still encouraging results that will help you to keep going.
  • The Habits of Health book you get with the program is amazing. It explains the inner workings of your body and many people have found this book to be truly life-changing.
  • A large part of the program is down to being mentored and coached. It is a known fact that having a coach is vital to the success of any physical undertaking, so this is a really good part of the program as a whole.
  • The Optavia community is very big and strong, and members are there to support you through any difficulties you may have, but also to simply have a chat.
  • The meal replacements are of fantastic quality. They are non-GMO, have probiotics included, contain no preservatives, sweeteners, or artificial flavors or colorings, contain around 20% of the recommended daily minerals and vitamins, are low in sugar, carbs, and fats, and are high in fiber and protein.
  • Most of the protein comes from whey and soy, which means vegetarians and vegans can also use the meals.

What I Didn’t Like About Optavia

  • The taste of the meal replacements do leave somewhat to be desired. When something is called “cinnamon cream cheese swirl cake”, you build certain expectations and those are not met by Optavia. This makes sense, since their food is all about the nutrition and therefore low in fat and sugar. It will take some getting used to, in other words.
  • You will enter ketosis when you follow the Optavia plan, which means you are likely to have some cravings. While it is certainly true that, when in ketosis, you burn more fat, your metabolism speeds up, and your sleep quality gets better, you are likely to also find it incredibly difficult to resist the smell of fresh pizza or other delicious foods.
  • You will work with a coach, which is a benefit, as described above, but there is also always the chance that you will be unhappy with your coach, or that you can’t communicate with him or her properly.
  • Unfortunately, the program isn’t cheap. In fact, it costs more than buying whole foods yourself, joining a gym, or joining other famous weight loss programs. However, if you really want something, you will make it work and find the money from somewhere.
  • The protein does not come from grains, pea, or hemp, which a lot of people prefer because it is gentler on the digestive system.

The Final Verdict

If you are worried about your weight or if you simply want to adopt a lifestyle that is healthier and better for you, then you may want to consider the Optavia products. The company aims to help people develop better lives and lifestyles. They have worked very hard at developing wholesome, healthy, nutritious products that are free of all processed materials that are destroying our bodies and weight. The company has been around for nearly two years now and, in that time, they have set themselves apart as a business that is trustworthy and does what it aims to do. Optavia, therefore, is 100% recommended.

My husband began his health journey 4 years ago and had great results. He followed the program to the letter and lost 70 pounds and came off all medications as a result. The potential cravings a person can have are not due to ketosis, but due to the fact that our bodies are addicted to carbs. It takes at least two weeks for your body to begin to get beyond the carb and sugar cravings due to our bodies being hooked on it. Drinking enough water each day helps tremendously in battling the cravings. Get past day 3 and you’re over one hurdle. get past the two week mark and your’e gonna be feeling great! It works and it teaches you how to create health longerm. Four yeas later and my husband is in better shape andhealth than the day I married him.

as soon as you start eating regular food, doesn’t matter how healthy you gain weight. Only good while in the program.

Not true I have been eating out and have not gained the weight. This is not a diet but a lifestyle change and believe me this is what I needed.

The main ingredient in all the bars and lots of the food is soy isolate which can cause cancer in women…..look it up…and we are eating it all dayyyyyyyyyyyy…….I now have large cysts in my breast that have to be biopsied..and my doctor said this is the worst thing women can eat for breast health!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I found when I searched Soy Isolates. It doesn’t say it causes breast cancer, it says it MIGHT worsen the prognosis of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Because estrogen can promote the development, growth, and spread of breast cancers, doctors have worried that eating a lot of soy foods or soy isoflavones (which can be taken as a dietary supplement) might worsen the prognosis of women diagnosed with breast cancer.”

My doctor said the very same thing about the bars.

Further review of scientific studies does not support this claim.

I was on this diet for 4 straight months. I developed breast cancer since my last mammogram which showed no issues. All of my genetic testing is negative and my cancer is highly ER/PR positive. Ive been questioning whether this diet had something to do with this change due to the high soy consumption.

I dont agree that Optavia products are healthy. Look at the ingredients too many to even consider. I have gone to clean protein bars that have very few ingredients date base with egg whites. Costco carrying a good one now RX bars. I am following a better eating plan but will not eat their products.

The ingredients you may not be able to identify are vitamins and minerals. These fuelings are extremely healthy and they work.

Hi, I am looking at the ingredients of the Optavia silky peanut butter and chocolate chip bar. I notice that there is Hydrogenated Palm oil included . That is not good for anyone. Why would Optavia include hydrogenated oil in their products?

Palm oil is discouraged as this oil is the number one culprit for destroying the Orangutan forests. Total devastation of forests which are then being used after the destruction for palm oil. NOT GOOD AT ALL!

All bars contain Sugar Alcohols that my body has reacted badly with, bloating and painful gas. I’ve lost 25 pounds and felt great for a couple months and then my body reacted badly. Their nutrition support was helpful in identifying the bloating cause, so I’m not the only one experiencing this side effect. Sugar alcohols are not natural, it’s not sugar or alcohol but a chemical ingredient for sweetness. Now I’m concerned about the soy for my Hashimoto thyroid disease and the amount of estrogen the soy is adding. Trying to decide how to move forward. I have stopped buying any new products. I wish there was another option without sugar alcohols and primarily soy.

I think the program might be ok, another concern I have is lack of any fruit at all, until you lose all your weight. I think there should be some fruit involved. Not to have fruit is unhealthy

I am very concerned about the SOY. I am not a member and probably will not do this because of the soy. I had breast cancer 14 years ago! Thank you for these comments, because I have learned some things I needed to know. It has been difficult to see how to join anyway. Thought you would like to know this. Sorry

I am down 33 pounds in 4 months. Have not been able to do that on any other plan I have tried. My coach is fantastic.

I had terrible gas on this program. Followed it to a “T” for two weeks. Didn’t lose a pound. Very disappointed in this expensive program.

I love stevia. Too bad this wonderful herb isn’t in more products.

Optavia and Metafast also include gluten and milk products which can be detrimental to those who are lactose intolerant or have gluten sensitivities. The first time (4 years ago), I did metafast and it worked but I didn’t come off the program like I should have so I subsequently gained much of the weight back. I loved the program and it was so easy and I still think it is a good program. I continued to supplement with the bars/shakes but the longer I used the products the more I noticed bloating and intestinal discomfort . I was taking GAS X and Lactaid to solve the problem. That didn’t seem to work so I have stopped using the optavia/metafast. I have decided to avoid all milk and gluten products and I am seeing a reflexologist and my symptoms have been greatly reduced . I have also been to the doctor for all kinds of tests to see if there was a “medical” reason for my discomfort. All the tests have been negative. My discomfort has been greatly reduced and I am back to being more normal. I have stayed away from the optavia/metafast fuelings that contain milk.

Lynn, I had same problem with other foods. I haven’t started Optavia yet. I did a full thyroid panel (which you usually have to ask for) and found out I had a thyroid condition called Hashimotos. I went to many doctors, including endocrinologists, before the full thyroid panel was done and this diagnosis was discovered. Thought you might want to know!

Breast cancer patients may not be able to eat soy based products. Soy is connected to increased estrogen and some breast cancer is connected to increased estrogen.

If you like the idea of having a coach to help you, this is a good diet short term. But, the real goal of the coach is to sell the Optavia “fuelings”. It feels like a diet cult with the heavy involvement they request. It is a pyramid scheme selling platform. They do not call it food as it is processed and not actually food. The labels say things like “chicken flavored”. You can loose weight on this plan if you can tolerate the processed powdered food and the overly sweet bars. If you love your sugar, you will like the diet. If you already eat right and still cannot loose weight, this isn’t for you. It is difficult to eat expensive, seriously terrible processed powdered food. On a positive not, I now crave simple diet foods like celery sticks, etc. A celery stick is delicious after eating the Otavia “fuelings”. Not recommended.

what are these products made from? How can there be NO sugar, then in the next sentence say “Low in sugar”? Trying to understand exactly what is in the purchased “food”.

Many have no sugar and some are very low in sugar. They design the program to keep you under 35 grams of sugar a day, which is healthy.

Stevia and different types of alcohol sugars read the ingredients.

Actually, alcohol sugars are low in calories and do not spike your blood sugar, like refined sugar. And stevia has no calories and no impact on your blood sugar.

Be careful with sugar alcohols as they can cause bloating and painful gas. Sugar alcohols are a chemical sweetener. Stevia is from the stevia plant and I can use that without any side effects I get with products contains sugar alcohols.
